Changelog

Halloween theme, a changelog, and a layout that stops fighting itself

Changes

Added

• Halloween theme alongside dark and light, sharing the same theme button and tokens as shortn
• Changelog page at /changelog/ with a generated history and an auto-built Unreleased block
• New About page explaining what the directory is for and what it deliberately does not do
• Repository count, star total and language count in the header, all live from the GitHub response
• Sort by most stars and by name A–Z alongside recently updated
• A live status pill per site with a progress bar while the check is in flight
• README previews load on demand behind a per-card button and are cached in the browser, instead of costing one GitHub request per repository on every page load
• Responsive layout: two columns on a desktop, a single column with a sticky dock on a phone
• Copy buttons on site cards and repo rows, and a one-click clone of any repo URL
• Escape clears the search box, slash focuses it, and results announce themselves to screen readers

Fixed

• Repository cards no longer collapse into a single unusably narrow column on mid-size screens
• The theme button no longer lies about what the next theme will be; it shows the current one
• Search, sort and view mode all keep working when the repo list is empty instead of throwing
• Status checks now abort after six seconds and report unreachable, so a slow site cannot leave the pill spinning forever
• README previews stop at a sensible length with a Read more toggle rather than an unbounded blob
• Loading the page no longer exhausts the GitHub unauthenticated rate limit. READMEs were being fetched eagerly for every repository, about twenty of the sixty requests allowed per hour, which left the directory failing on the third visit. They now load only when clicked, are cached once read, and a refused request says rate limited instead of failing silently

Changed

• Everything runs on one shared stylesheet with theme tokens as CSS variables, matching shortn exactly
• The GitHub response is cached in the browser for fifteen minutes, which keeps the site well inside the unauthenticated rate limit
• The repository grid uses a larger minimum column width, so descriptions get more room
• Legal pages and docs were restyled to the new theme and given a proper site navigation bar
